Activity Lineup

  • Main event- Registration starts at 8am.
  • Web design Masterclass with Delphi Technologies 11:00am – Noon & Noon – 1pm
  • WomeninTech Masterclass by W.TEC 11:00am – 11:45am
  • Blockchain Masterclass with SESO Global 11:00am – 11:45am

Categories

There are two categories for the competition.

The two categories have different judging rubrics and requirements but will both be presenting at the Demo Day – Event Finale

Junior

This category will comprise of Secondary School students between the ages of 14 and 17 years. Only students who competed in the Lagos Code Week competition will be eligible to participate.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is only open to teams. Individuals cannot apply.

All Team members must be between the ages of 14 and 17 years.

Teams must register a team name, and must comprise of 2-5 members.

All team members must have identified roles.

Each team member must be enrolled in a Secondary School based in Lagos.

Only students who competed in the Lagos Code Week competition will be eligible to participate.

Senior

This category comprises of interested members of the public and participants of the CodeLagos Out-of-School program. This group of developers will be between the ages of 18 and 30 years. 

ELIGIBILITY

Competition is only open to teams. Individuals cannot apply

All Team members must be between the ages 18 and 30 years.

Teams must register a team name and must comprise of 2-5 members.

All team members must have identified roles.

Each team should have at least one programmer or developer responsible for developing the solution.

Junior Category

  • Second Runner-Up Team: Tablets & Certificates
  • First Runner-Up Team: Tablets & Certificates
  • Winning Team: Laptops & Certificates

Senior Category

  • Second Runner-Up Team: N750,000
  • First Runner-Up Team: N1,000,000 + 6 Weeks Incubation
  • Winning Team: N2,000,000 + 3 Months Incubation

Timelines

Junior

Week 1

24th September 2018:
The Code Lagos Hackathon Launch
Week 1-4

24th September – 29th October:
The finalist from each district at from the Lagos Code Week (18 teams) will be trained on using MIT App Inventor and prepared for Demo Day
Week 5

Demo Day (1st November)

Participants will be tasked to design a solution to an identified problem using MIT App inventor within a limited time-frame. Participants will then present their solutions to a panel of judges.

Senior

Week 1

24th September 2018:
The Code Lagos Hackathon Launch

Sept 24th – 5th October:
Registration Portal opens on the CodeLagos website.

Participants will submit a 3-minute video of their project, highlighting the problem their solution will solve and business sustainability of their solution. Shortlisted contestants will be invited for a Semi-final round

Week 2

6th – 7th October:
Review and Selection of submitted applications

9th October:

Shortlisted applicants are invited for a Meet and Greet session. This session will include the second round of interviews, and a briefing on the rules and expectations for the Hackathon and Demo Day.

10th October:
Finalist will be selected and notified.
Week 3-4

10th – 25th October:
Participants work on their solution and pitch deck

26th October:
Deadline for submission of project and pitch deck

30th– 31st October:
Pre- Hackathon/Demo Day rehearsals and staging

1st November:
DEMO DAY!!!

Describe how are you planning to solve the problem.

Product

How does your product or service actually work? Show some examples.

Traction

Traction means having a measurable set of customers that serve to prove the potential of your solution.(Not required if your solution does not have a pilot yet)

Market

Know, or at least attempt to predict, the size of your target market.

Competition

WWhat are the alternative solutions to the problem you are trying to solve?

Business Model

How are you planning to make money? Show a schedule of your revenue
expectations.

Investment

What is your planned budget? What kind of money are you looking for?

Demo Day

November 1st 2018

Participants will present their solutions to a panel of judges from the Lagos State Tech, Business and Investor Community on stage for 10-mins after which a winner will be announced.
